Sunset Performance Series: DURTY DUB’S (Will Darity) TRIBUTE TO CHARLEY PRIDE
Thursday, September 18
7:00pm
$5 Suggested Donation
Durty Dub first learned who Charley Pride was from his grandmother after one fateful thanksgiving dinnerin 2016. An article in Jet magazine led her to recount Pride’s incredible legacy, including 36 #1 hit singles, over 70 million albums sold, 31 gold and 4 platinum albums - including one quadruple platinum. Also, onRCA Records he is second in sales on RCA only to Elvis Presley.
Durty Dub renders Charley Pride’s classic country anthems faithfully while refreshing some pieces with reggae, soul and gospel adaptations. Tonight, he'll offer an intimate duo performance with vocalist Myk'l Hanna, adding some background and fun stories about the man himself. Roll Pride!
Fascinated by the storied success of one of country music’s few (at the time) black artists, Dub set out to digest Pride’s extensive catalog and learn more about the man. The next step was to put a tribute bandtogether, consisting of NC’s most versatile musicians, including vocalist Michael Hanna, percussionistAtiba Rorie [Africa Unplugged], bassist Kenny Phelps-McKeown [Ellis Dyson & The Shambles] & drummer Devin Fuller [Emily Musolino]. The band has also been joined on occasion by slide-guitarslinger, Phil Cook [Bruce Hornsby, Hiss Golden Messenger].
With this personnel, Dub soon found that he was able to render Pride’s classic country anthems faithfully while refreshing some of the pieces with reggae, soul and gospel adaptations. Since then, the project hasgone on to share the stage with H.C. McEntire, Gangstagrass, and play the mainstage at the 2019 Beaufort Music Festival.
Sunset Performance Series features performances that connect art and social justice outside on the museum grounds by the Boundless sculpture by Stephen Hayes. Free for the community.

9pm Doors. 10pm Show. $15 ADV $20 DOS. 21+Kind Hearted Strangershttps://kindheartedstrangers.com/Kind Hearted Strangers is an evolving cast of musicians led by singer/songwriter Marc Townes. Tracing its origins to the foothills of Colorado, 2025 finds the band creating and touring out of Nashville, TN. As the name implies, the project acts as the primary vessel for Townes’ artistic endeavors, as he has been joined by a variety of musicians for each album cycle. With a foundation built on well crafted songs, KHS has evolved into a dynamic live band capable of bridging the gap between all out rock n’ roll and harmony-driven acoustic roots. The band’s latest LP entitled “ Now.here” features a collaboration with visual artist/painter Dylan Lynch. This immersive project found the group working in a shared Richmond, VA warehouse space for 5 days. With no prepared material, the artists intentionally put pressure on themselves to create and deliver a Live Concert & Art Exhibition at the end of the week. The resulting album contains brand new material that was recorded live with the same raw energy and passion KHS has been delivering across the country during their busiest era of touring to date. The Wilson Springs Hotelhttps://www.instagram.com/wilsonspringshotel/Homegrown in the rich music scene of Virginia, The Wilson Springs Hotel is a 5-star quintet brought together within a union of genres - a high-energy folk act committed to rock & roll, bluegrass and classic country. Forming in 2021, the band released two albums in quick succession, while growing a steadfast audience from their fiery and memorable performances out on the road. The group is named after a historic hotel in Lexington, Virginia, home of lead vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Jacob Ritter. 2024 found the band releasing a handful of singles that showcase an even more thoughtful and driving sound. Ritter's lyrics cover a plethora of subjects, from love and loss, and one’s internal growth as a result, to the relatable woes of the modern working man. Songs such as “Pulling Weeds” (featuring sweeping melodies from fiddle player Brendan Boylan and guitarist Victor McManus), explore the struggle with repetitive mental loops, much like attempting to get nutrients out of the same-old spent garden. The bouncy, danceable, and crowd-pleasing sound of “Two Step Man” takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to noting the finer aspects of a new relationship, while being driven by a toe-tapping country shuffle courtesy of drummer Stephan LaRue and bassist/backing vocalist Andrew Carper. Through its constant growth, the band remains unwilling to conform to a single genre, as is evident in the way that this newer material celebrates the many influences instilled by the variety of sonic backgrounds each band member brings with them. Having had multiple memorable appearances at wonderful regional festivals such as Del-Fest, Floydfest and Roosterwalk, it’s no secret that The Wilson Springs Hotel is best experienced in a live setting. They expertly package dynamic performances full of raw emotion, humor and storytelling, with song-by-song showcases of each player’s talents. You will undoubtedly enjoy the many lovely amenities offered to you during your stay with The Wilson Springs Hotel.

2025 GRAMMY-winning Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz’s incandescent Kauyumari kicks off the WSO’s New Era with a bang, its pulsing rhythms and its relentless energy serving as a metaphor for this exciting new chapter in the orchestra’s history. Following the success of the world premiere of his commissioned work Elegy for the Victims of 1898 at the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s November 2023 concert Project 1898, the WSO is proud to once again commission a new piece from Wilmington’s own Algernon Robinson. Drawing on his lifelong connection to the city and the orchestra, Robinson brings a fresh, forward-looking approach to composition, making him a visionary voice who bridges the WSO’s past and future, tradition and innovation. Tchaikovsky’s powerful, lyrical Symphony No. 5 is a journey through human emotion itself, from tragedy to triumph. Encompassing the melancholy of the first movement, the timeless beauty of the second movement (whose Horn solo has inspired numerous popular songs) and rhythmic excitement, it leads to a glorious, joyous conclusion: setting the scene for an exciting season – and Era – to come.
