Job Title: WHQR Digital Associate

Reports To: Development Director

Terms of Employment: 40 hours per week and offers a comprehensive benefits package for health, dental, vision, and paid time off

Job Description:

The Digital Associate is an integral member of WHQR’s Development and News teams. WHQR is a community-licensed public radio station operating as Friends of Public Radio, Inc. The station delivers both news and classical music and is located in historic downtown Wilmington, NC. The Digital Associate will help carry out WHQR’s digital strategies and activities as defined by the Station Manager, Development Director and News Director. The Digital Associate will manage and grow the station's image and distribution channels. This role will ultimately help WHQR increase listenership and fundraising through creative digital media. Their ideas on all projects are solicited and valued. This position reports to the Development Director.

Duties and responsibilities:

Content Strategy: Implementing digital campaigns that drive traffic to platforms and social media. Working with the news room to translate and create content for social media. Staying current with trends, strategies and digital tools and platforms.

Digital Fundraising & Engagement: Implementing strategies for donor acquisition and digital engagement.

Website/App Oversight: Ensuring the station's digital presence is up-to-date and engaging.

Analytics & Reporting: Using data to measure the success of digital content and inform strategy. 

Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

The Digital Associate is a professional with an understanding of public media’s role across digital platforms, marketing, and digital fundraising. This individual must demonstrate exceptional judgment, strong grammar and writing skills, and sound discretion in order to make thoughtful, real-time decisions that accurately and responsibly represent WHQR.

The successful candidate will have:

A Bachelor’s Degree

Experience with and knowledge of digital media formats, platforms, web development and graphic design

Excellent customer service skills, a good attitude, and professional written and oral communication skills

Proficiency in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and more or the ability to learn platforms quickly

A collaborative personality who enjoys working with a team and communicating with management and colleagues for insights and feedback

Creativity, energy and enthusiasm

Preferred Skills:

One year or more of experience in a similar role

Knowledge of and enthusiasm for public media and the news industry

Knowledge of Wilmington and the Cape Fear Region

Salary Range:

$42,000 - $52,000 based on experience

Details:

This position works in the WHQR offices in downtown Wilmington and off-site as needed.

Many of WHQR’s events and occasional news events happen outside of regular business hours, including nights and weekends, so a flexible schedule is needed.

This is a SAG-AFTRA covered position.
