International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide celebration of lunar science and exploration and occurs in early fall when the Moon is around first quarter. Join us for hands-on activities, telescope and binocular Moon observation, themed story time and more!
Event activities will take place inside the museum and outdoors in the Museum Park.
Activities for the evening include:• Enjoy interactive stories at our Stellar Story Corner.• View the Moon through telescopes and binoculars and get stargazing tips from members of Cape Fear Astronomical Society. • Color your own space helmet and pose for pictures with your “astronaut crew”.• Build a Moon Phaser to see the order of the Moon’s phases. • Learn to measure angular distance with your hand and find your way around the night sky. • Join the fictional Lunar Travel Bureau and create an advertisement to encourage vacationing on Mars.• Unleash your inner graffiti artist as you tag the Museum Park with Moon-inspired chalk art. • Purchase tasty snacks and beverages from KONA Ice and Brighter Days Coffee.
Turning the Wheel Productions presents an intergenerational, multi-media, dance/theater performance 'Stardust and Water' on Oct. 3rd and 4th at 7pm at the Mini Evans Arts Center. For ticket information go to stardustandwater.brownpapertickets.com.

Historic Downtown Wilmington Marketplace is a city sponsored artisan outdoor market, in our 9th year. Every Sunday from April through October, local artists set up and display their creations on Front Street between Market and Dock streets, from 10-3pm. You can find jewelry, glass, fiber, clay, paintings and wall hangings.

Adult Story Hour is a six-week series of once-weekly events held at Azalea Station in Wilmington’s Cargo District. Modeled after NPR’s Selected Shorts, each evening features local authors, artists, and entertainers reading short pieces they love (but didn’t write) to a live audience. With great drinks, follow up panel discussions, and nearby delicious dining options, it's a great night out for anyone who enjoys stories.
