The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
Directed by Robin Post
April 18-21 & 25-28, 2024
7:30 PM Thurs.-Sat., 2 PM Sun. Mainstage Theatre
The Importance of Being Earnest, a trivial comedy for serious people, Oscar Wilde’s madcap romp about mistaken identities, secret engagements, and lovers’ entanglements still delights audiences more than a century after its 1895 premiere performance.
Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax are both in love with the same mythical suitor. Jack Worthing has wooed Gwendolen as Ernest while Algernon has also posed as Ernest to win the heart of Jack’s ward, Cecily. When all four arrive at Jack’s country home on the same weekend pandemonium ensues. Only a senile nursemaid and an old, discarded handbag can save the day!

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo is a New York-based dance company that combines classical ballet with humor and satire. This all-male company features dancers who perform in drag while poking fun at traditional gender roles. Founded in 1974, the Trocks are known for their parodies and their exaggerated technique. Despite the humor, the Trocks are highly skilled dancers who are internationally celebrated for their talent and irreverent approach to classical ballet. Their performances are a celebration of the art form and a reminder not to take ourselves too seriously.
