Directed by the theater’s resident artist, Kendrix Singletary, in the spectacular, special way that audiences have come to expect from the artistic team at the Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater. The 1950s are out, and change is in the air! Hairspray, winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance and deliriously tuneful songs. Hairspray is a musical based on John Waters’ 1988 film about a teenager named Tracy Turnblad who dreams of dancing on a local TV Show in 1962 Baltimore.

Join us for a 90-minute walking tour in historic downtown Wilmington. The tour begins and ends at the Bellamy Mansion Museum. This tour is based on "A Guide to Wilmington's African American Heritage" and will explore the people and places integral to Wilmington's Black history.
The cost is $20 per person, plus tax. Space is limited, so registration is required online at the Bellamy Mansion Museum Store. This is a rain or shine event. The tours are appropriate for all ages, but please note they may not be suitable for anyone with limited mobility. If you have questions, please email info@bellamymansion.org before registering.
The Burgwin-Wright House is excited to celebrate our 100th art show in our gallery by welcoming back local artist, Janet Sessoms, for her show "Colorful Reflections.”
The Opening reception, in conjunction with Fourth Friday Gallery Nights, is on Friday, March 27 from 6-9PM.
Sessoms artworks will be on display and for sale in our art gallery through June 20th. Admission is free. The gallery is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
About the ArtistJanet B. Sessoms, who works primarily in oils, describes her style as painterly realism. Her paintings reflect her fascination with the effects of light on the environment and inanimate objects, as well as her fondness for the landscapes of the southeast. Sessoms wanted to be an artist since the age of eight. An art educator for 22 years, Sessoms retired fourteen years ago and has been realizing her dream ever since. A self-described, life-long learner, she enjoys taking workshops by nationally renowned artists. Sessoms maintains a studio at ArtworksTM and is an active member of the Wilmington Art Association, the Art League of Leland, and Oil Painters of America. Historic Downtown Wilmington Marketplace is a city sponsored artisan outdoor market, in our 9th year. Every Sunday from April through October, local artists set up and display their creations on Front Street between Market and Dock streets, from 10-3pm. You can find jewelry, glass, fiber, clay, paintings and wall hangings.
