Come experience the 1920 silent film “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” with a live organ performance by world-renowned concert organist Dorothy Papadakos at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Papadakos, a Julliard graduate, will improvise the accompaniment in real time as the film plays on a large screen in the sanctuary. She served as organist for The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City from the 1990s through 2001. During her time at the Cathedral she built a reputation with her vivid organ improvisations, for her ability to reach out to involve musicians and music from all walks of life and to integrate this music with the music of the Anglican tradition.
Papadakos will perform in St. Paul’s historic sanctuary on the main pipe organ, a Goulding & Wood 38-rank, 30-stop instrument with the pipes located on either side of the altar. The church also has a 9-rank G & W antiphonal gallery organ with festival trumpets and other ranks that complement the main organ.
Papadakos has performed widely, accompanying other silent film classics “The Phantom of the Opera,” “The Ledger,” “Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Nosferatu."

Please join us for the 2025 Back Door Kitchen Tour on Saturday, October 11th, from 10 am to 4 pm, rain or shine! Presented by Residents of Old Wilmington, this annual tour raises money that ROW uses to fund grants for local nonprofit organizations doing much-needed work to improve the quality of life in Wilmington. Our 2025 recipients, granted money raised from the 2024 Back Door Kitchen Tour, include Carousel Center, DREAMS Center for Arts Education, Castle Street Collective, Williston Middle School, Alliance for Cape Fear Trees, Sister Isaac Center, and Brooklyn Arts Music Academy.
During the Back Door Kitchen Tour, homeowners graciously open what’s called the heart of the home--the kitchen--as well as the first floor, to share the history, beauty, architecture, and southern charm that Wilmington is known for. This year’s tour will showcase eight stunning homes in the Historic District. (Historic homes are typically not ADA-accessible.)
Tickets for the Back Door Kitchen Tour are $40 per person and can be purchased in advance at Eventbrite (https://backdoorkitchentour2025.eventbrite.com), where you can also get more information about the tour and view the homes being featured. If you purchase your tickets by July 31st, the code EARLYBIRD will be automatically applied at checkout, giving you $10 off each ticket.
We hope to see you there!
