Board of Education members unanimously approved the settlement, which attorneys for the plaintiffs say was for $640,000. The agreement covers three additional victims of Michael Earl Kelly, a former New Hanover County Schools employee who pleaded guilty to dozens of counts of child abuse in 2019.

The suspect is wanted in connection with the distribution of antisemitic flyers in the Brunswick County town of Carolina Shores.

Earlier this year, the detective was put on administrative leave.

In 2019, Scott came within four points of unseating incumbent Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo. He went on to play a prominent role in the social justice protests following the murder of George Floyd. He confessed to the 2015 sexual assault of his wife in an interview and was later arrested.
