The weather system became a named system on Saturday morning, and is expected to impact the South Carolina and Cape Fear coast. Most impacts are predicted to be minor, but flooding from rain and storm surges could be an issue, and rough water and rip tides are expected.

The Endowment’s new capacity and community grants, announced earlier this year, provide up to $5,000 to help small nonprofits and assist organizations of all sizes continue to develop. The Endowment funded 111 applications out of over 300.

Recently, The Pender-Topsail Post & Voice has strongly criticized former school board member and county GOP treasurer Phil Cordeiro, blaming him for driving a lack of transparency at the Pender County Board of Commissioners; Cordeiro has pushed back on those accusations, saying he's pushing to modernize the county. In this edition, we include an opinion piece written by Cordeiro, alongside Post & Voice publisher Andy Pettigrew's "Watchman on the Wall" column from last week.

Earlier this month, Republican state senators filed a bill entitled, "Eliminating "DEI" in Public Education." In a pair of opinion pieces, Senator Michael Lee, who co-sponsored the bill, describes what he hopes the legislation will and won't do, and New Hanover County NAACP President LeRon T. Montgomery argued for the importance of DEI programs.

New Hanover County school board unanimously hires Dr. Christopher Barnes as permanent superintendentDr. Christopher Barnes has served as interim superintendent since the New Hanover County school board fired Dr. Charles Foust in July. He’s received bipartisan support from a board that has otherwise been split on many issues.
