CoastLine: A Call To Men And The Meaning Of Manhood

man_box.jpg

One in five women will be raped at some point in their lives.  One in 71 men will face that level of sexual violence.  That’s according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.

For women of multiracial backgrounds, the risk of assault is higher – 45%.

High rates of sexual violence and continued high-profile harassment and assault cases highlight the need for addressing the root causes.  Some experts contend one of them is an unhealthy cultural view about what it means to be a man.

Guest:

Rickie Houston spends his life talking about this issue and teaching new ways of thinking about and being a man to professional athletes in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB.  It’s part of his work as the lead trainer for A Call To Men:  The Next Generation of Manhood, a national non-profit that also leads trainings on university campuses and for corporations.  Rickie Houston is a prevention specialist for the Wilmington Domestic Violence Shelter & Services, and he’s a Reverend at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.
