Nov 5, 2019

The Town of Burgaw had three open seats on its Board; all three incumbents won re-election:  Vernon Harrell, Red Robbins, and Bill George, will serve another four years.

In the Town of Surf City, which stretches into Onslow County, the fiercely-fought battle between long-time incumbent Mayor Doug Medlin and current City Council Member Jeremy Shugarts ended with Mayor Medlin easily winning the seat again  with 67% of the vote.

The three open seats on Surf City Town Council will be filled by the two incumbents who ran – Buddy Fowler and Donald Helms -- along with newcomer Dwight Torres.

In Topsail Beach, two challengers easily ousted Mayor Howard Braxton, who came in third place.  Steve Smith won the mayoral seat with 64%.  Challenger Rodney Dillman scooped up 34% -- leaving 2% for the outgoing mayor.

Topsail Beach Commissioners are newcomers:  John Gunter and Joe Bell edged out a third candidate, Rich Pollock, for the two open seats.  No incumbents ran for re-election.

All results are unofficial until the final vote canvass on November 15th.
