Kyle Villemain

Founder and editor-in-chief of The Assembly

Kyle Villemain is the editor-in-chief at The Assembly. He previously worked as a speechwriter at UNC-Chapel Hill, the UNC System, and as a freelancer for university leaders statewide, before launching The Assembly in early 2021.

  • Clayton Somers, vice chancellor for public affairs and secretary of the university for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, stares as Black students lead a demonstration during the Board of Trustees meeting to make a tenure decision for Nikole Hannah-Jones. In 1979, Black students led a similar demonstration when a qualified Black professor, Sonja Haynes Stone, was denied tenure.
