The outer bands of Tropical Storm Irma have begun to affect travel in and around the Wilmington-Lower Cape Fear region.
Wilmington International Airport says flights to and from Atlanta, Charlotte, and cities further up the Atlantic coast have been canceled, and urges travelers to call ahead to find out if their flight has been affected.
Also, The North Carolina Department of Transportation has suspended runs of the Southport-Fort Fisher ferry until further notice.
The National Weather Service says Irma's worst effects will be felt along the Carolina coast between 5:00 and 9:00 tonight.
