Deborah Dicks Maxwell was born in Wilmington, North Carolina and calls it home, but she’s lived and traveled around the world. Despite her boarding school days in South Carolina, college in Pittsburgh at LaRoche University, graduate schooling at East Carolina University, military tours of duty which include Korea and Operation Desert Storm, Deborah Dicks Maxwell is familiar to many local residents from her advocacy work.
She is the President of the New Hanover County chapter of the NAACP, which celebrates its 102nd year this May 2021. And while we explore her work with the NAACP on this edition, we also meet her in a slightly more personal, less official capacity: as the human she is through the life she has led.
