CoastLine: Primary 2020 Preview - Races, Issues, Candidates With PCD

North Carolina’s primary election is underway.  This is the chance for voters to decide which party nominees compete in the November election.  Early Voting runs through February 29th and Election Day is March 3rd.

Voters in North Carolina are deciding on candidates for president, U.S. House and Senate races as well as state House and Senate candidates. They’re also choosing some of the people who will have more direct impacts on their lives, from county commissioners to school board members.

In 2020, a Voter ID requirement does not apply to the primary.  Now a second court has temporarily blocked the North Carolina law requiring voter ID on the grounds that it discriminates against African American voters.  According to The Washington Post, this latest ruling, handed down by a state court of appeals on February 18th, means it’s even less likely that voters will need an ID in time for the November election.

On this edition, we look at the races on local ballots and the issues driving those races.
