The Town of Burgaw had three open seats on its Board; all three incumbents won re-election: Vernon Harrell, Red Robbins, and Bill George, will serve another four years.
In the Town of Surf City, which stretches into Onslow County, the fiercely-fought battle between long-time incumbent Mayor Doug Medlin and current City Council Member Jeremy Shugarts ended with Mayor Medlin easily winning the seat again with 67% of the vote.
The three open seats on Surf City Town Council will be filled by the two incumbents who ran – Buddy Fowler and Donald Helms -- along with newcomer Dwight Torres.
In Topsail Beach, two challengers easily ousted Mayor Howard Braxton, who came in third place. Steve Smith won the mayoral seat with 64%. Challenger Rodney Dillman scooped up 34% -- leaving 2% for the outgoing mayor.
Topsail Beach Commissioners are newcomers: John Gunter and Joe Bell edged out a third candidate, Rich Pollock, for the two open seats. No incumbents ran for re-election.
All results are unofficial until the final vote canvass on November 15th.
