CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Primary 2018: Brunswick County Picks Rep. Jerry Benton For November School Board Battle

Brunswick County’s Board of Commissioners featured two candidates on the ballot for one seat – but earlier this year, challenger Tom Adams announced he would not pursue a campaign.  Election to the county board, he said, would put him in conflict with his position as Chairman of the Board of the North Carolina State Ports Authority.  Incumbent Randy Thompson will keep his seat since he faces no Democratic opponent in November.

District 2 Commissioner Marty Cooke, however, will face Independent candidate Marilyn Priddy.

Brunswick County’s Board of Education District 5 saw a Republican primary challenge.  Incumbent John Thompson faced challengers Jerry Benton and Robert Cruse.  Jerry Benton, who ran for a state house seat two years, won the nomination by 11 points and goes on to face Democrat Joanne Levitan in November.

The Village of Bald Head Island overwhelmingly approved a $6 million bond that will pay for beach improvement projects.

Rachel hosts and produces CoastLine, an award-winning hourlong conversation featuring artists, humanitarians, scholars, and innovators in North Carolina.
