The President and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center is stepping down. Jack Barto, who is heading into retirement, will work with his successor, John Gizdic, during a transition period, according to a press release from NHRMC. Gizdic is the hospital's current Chief Operating Officer.
During Barto’s 12-year tenure, he oversaw the construction of the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital, a surgical pavilion, and the Zimmer Cancer Center. Barto also directed the hospital’s conversion to electronic medical records. He will keep the title of CEO until his retirement date which is no later than June 30, 2017.
Gizdic will officially take the title of President July 1st. He started at NHRMC in 2005 as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development. He advanced to the COO position in 2013.
