"A Little Lunch Music" | Holiday Tunes With Workmon & Sullivan, December 1st
Join us on Friday, December 1 at Noon at WHQR for a casual lunchtime mini-concert themed for the holidays. WHQR's own Bob Workmon, Tenor, joins Pianist John Sullivan for a mix of tunes from Schubert to Kosmo to Mel Torme. We'll have special treats, and feel free to bring your lunch!
Selections: Songs by Schubert, Schumann, Bellini, and Faure; Kosma's "Autumn Leaves"; "Begin the Beguine" and "Night & Day" by Cole Porter; Lehar's "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz"; "The Christmas Song" by Mel Torme; Lullabyes from Brahms, Copland, and Goldfaden; and White Christmas Set by Irving Berlin-"The Best Things Happen When You're Dancing," "Count Your Blessings," and "White Christmas."

John Sullivan is the Director of Music at St. James Episcopal Church in Wilmington, and is on the faculty at Cape Fear Community College. Prior to living in Wilmington, John lived in San Francisco where, for twelve years, he was the Music and Liturgy Admininstrator of Grace Cathedral. John received a Bachelor of Music degree in piano from Ithaca College, and Masters of Music degrees from Rutgers University (Choral Conducting) and Holy Names College (Music Education with Kodály Emphasis). John is a tenor in the Schola Cantorum Choir of the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and has been a musician for musical theater productions of both Opera House Theatre Company and Thalian Association.
Bob Workmon is a singer, actor, writer and broadcaster. Born in Kermit, Texas, Bob grew up on Isle of Hope near Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in music. Bob has performed in opera and oratorio, and on stage for Wilmington’s Opera House Theatre Company as Javert in Les Miserables and Tony Esposito in The Most Happy Fella for which he received a Wilmington Theater Award for Best Actor in a Musical. His theater credits include roles in Fiddler on the Roof, Man of La Mancha, She Loves Me, Mame, 1776, The Hermit of Ft. Fisher, War of the Worlds, Macbeth, and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Bob is program director at WHQR Public Radio, and writes about the arts for the Wilmington Star-News.
