Gerard is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, including Cape Fear Rising, The Last Battleground: The Civil War Comes to North Carolina, and Down the Wild Cape Fear. An avid musician, Gerard teaches creative writing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
