The Burgwin-Wright House welcomes back The Annual Open Studio of the Anne Newbold Perkins Critique Group featuring artists: Betty Brown, Barbara Bear Jamison, Rena Powell, Jodie Wren Rippy, and Jenny McKinnon Wright. Their show will open on October 22 with a reception from 6pm-9pm. Betty Brown is a painter of people and places attracted by subject matter that invites exploitation of color, shape, and texture. She finds inspiration at home and has traveled to the Greek Islands, Portugal, France, England, Italy, Scandinavia, New Mexico, and Maine. Barbara Bear Jamison is a 4th generation Wilmingtonian and her award winning works reflect her love of the coastal region where she has lived and traveled. The scenes include people, boats and nature saturated with the beautiful light and color of the areas she paints. Rena Powell’s quality of light in her paintings illustrate her love for the land in her native Wrightsville Sound area and have become a unique attribute to her work. Her focus has been "plein air" or outside oil painting on small panels using a French easel around Wrightsville Beach, Southport, and Bald Head Island. Jodie Wren Rippy is an artist who thrives on finding a myriad of ways to make her marks. At her core she is a representational oil painter. Art and the making of art has been an integral part of her life since childhood. Jenny McKinnon Wright is intrigued by light as it affects nature in a particular moment. To capture that emotion and connect with the viewer is the goal. It’s the effect of light on color that fascinates her. Their artworks will be on exhibit until November 20. Admission is free, masks are required on-site. The gallery is open to the public Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm.
