Ellie Wee and Barry David Salwen will play a colorful program for cello and piano at UNCW’s Beckwith Recital Hall. The concert begins with the C Major sonata of Beethoven, filled with contrasts of drama, lyricism, and humor. This will be followed by a work of the great Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera. His Pampeana #2, or Rhapsody, is powerfully driving and rhythmic, with sections of haunting atmosphere. A short piece by Chen Yi follows, delicate and introspective. The program concludes with the rapturously beautiful, passionate and beloved sonata by César Franck, one of the great works of the chamber literature.
