Communique: The Official "WHQR Day" Is Nigh...Tuesday Begins With Mayor's Proclamation

Jeff Hunter in work mode

Tuesday, 9/13 is WHQR Day (notice how 9/13 is a lot like 91.3). On Tuesday morning, Mayor Bill Saffo will make a proclamation on the air, and WHQR hopes listeners will show support by wearing WHQR buttons, stickers, and/or t-shirts. Photos and videos showing support can be posted on the WHQR Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages with the hashtag #WHQRDay. In the evening, a big party will be at Waterline Brewing Company under the bridge on Surry Street from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Join us there!

Kelly Luckhaus, WHQR Board Member

WHQR Board Member Kelly Luckhaus and Underwriting Representative Jeff Hunter joined us in the studio to talk about what this event means for the station. It's an opportunity to celebrate the station and to shift WHQR's capital campaign from the "quiet" phase to the "public" phase. WHQR launched a capital campaign 3 years ago to raise $1.5 million to make substantial improvements to the station, called emPowering Our Future. The campaign is nearing the goal, with $1,246,000 raised, and certain objectives of the campaign already implemented (e.g., 24-hour Classical station, audio vault upgrade, technology upgrades). Listen above to Luckhaus and Hunter talk about WHQR Day and the campaign above.
