Communique: Author Myrna Brown Published 2 Books In 2 Years; Booksigning Saturday At B&N
Myrna Brown had a story locked in her heart and mind for over 4 decades. She finally wrote and published that story last summer at the age of 70: Of Unseen Things Above. Opening the gates to let that story out seems to have released more than Brown expected; she just published her second book, A Season of Mists. Brown is signing books at Barnes & Noble at Mayfaire on Saturday, September 10, 2:00pm - 5:00 pm. Listen above to our discussion about why she waited to write and hear an excerpt from A Season of Mists.
Author Myrna Brown: "Of Unseen Things Above" and "A Season of Mists." Booksigning at Barnes & Noble Mayfaire, Saturday, September 10, 2:00pm - 5:00pm.
A Season of Mists contains multiple letters exchanged between Suzan and Da, who are in love for 20 years before they consummate their affections. The excerpt Brown reads in the interview is from one of Suzan's letters containing a poem she wrote for Da:
I lay my hand on the soft shell of my womb
No closer to its mystery.
Twice swollen, it cushioned And nourished in darkness,
Children… unknown, unnamed…
And threw itself into convulsions
To deliver them to the day,
Stretching me to receive them.
I move my hand,
Cup it under yours
As you lift my breast.
The sun is rising upon us,
The engorged bosom of a new day…
Cupped in the hand of a beloved.
Strands, fingers of clouds,
Pillow and plump the readied nipple
In the cavity of a cumulus palm.
