Communique: Lee Lowrimore (Finally) Finished The "Mercury" Script; Staged Reading Sunday
Lee Lowrimore's experiences working at a gay theatre in New York City several decades ago stayed with him. He wrote a one-act play about it back in the 80s. But he put it away. Just a few years ago, he took it out again, expanded it...and he put it away-largely because "gay" issues didn't seem as relevant anymore. After HB2 passed in North Carolina, Lowrimore pulled it out again. After re-approaching the script with renewed vigor, Lowrimore is ready to share this story with the world. A free reading, featuring local actors, is Sunday, July 10 at 8:00pm at Theatre Now (corner of 10th & Dock).
"Mercury" by Lee Lowrimore. Free slightly staged reading at Theatre Now. Sunday, July 10 @ 8:00.
Actors performing the script include Katherine Vernon, Steve Rassin, Ashley Grantham, Eddie Key, Anna Gamel, Christy Grantham, and Chris Connor.
The year is 1979. The place is a small office in an old building in an old neighborhood in the East Village of New York City. The room has two functions. It is the office of Mercury Message Service, complete with upright pull and plug switchboard, pigeonholes for messages, file cabinets, and desks and tables. It is also the backstage, box office, and costume and prop storage for the off off Broadway theater on the other side of the wall.
