CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

"Santa's Spider" by Theatre for All!

Theatre for All!

"Even though we have disabilities-we can still show people that having a disability is not a problem, it's a part of life." Jeremy Vest

Theatre for All! was conceived and put in action about a year and a half ago through the Superstar Academy at Theatre Now.  The project was created to provide performance opportunities for youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and Williams Syndrome.  Classes are ongoing for students at Laney High School and on Saturday mornings at Theatre Now.  Instructor Kim Henry joined us in the studio to talk about the program along with student Jeremy Vest.  Interviewer Gina Gambony is also an instructor in the program.

The Theatre for All! Saturday class is putting on its second performance on Saturday, December 19 at 1:00 at Theatre Now.  This original show was created by the participants under the direction of Kim Henry and Gina Gambony, plus the program's proponent and volunteer, Dylan Patterson.  The show features singing, dancing, and storytelling and introduces a new character for Christmastime: Santa's Spider.

To find out more about this program, watch this video or visit the website.  New students are always accepted; the winter/spring semester begins the 2nd week of January on Saturdays at 10:30.  Listen to the interview here:
