The first-in-the-nation Healthy Opportunities Pilot helped nearly 30,000 North Carolinians access food, housing repairs, and transportation. Without funding, the program will shut down July 1.

CoastLine: Mallory Cash on letting motherhood and curiosity lead from lawyer to editorial photographer
When Mallory Cash started her professional life as a lawyer, she never imagined she'd let that career go in just a few short years. When she had her first child, she wanted to document how her daughter made her feel, and photographing the baby was the best way to do that. She also never dreamed her desire to chronicle her child's development would lead to an impressive and growing portfolio of southeastern luminaries — or a journalistic collaboration with Pulitzer Grantee Melba Newsome.

CoastLine: Paul Plishka on how he sustained one of the longest singing careers in Met Opera history, playing Falstaff, and coming full circle from buffo to serious and back
Operatic bass Paul Plishka debuted with the Met in 1967 as the Monk in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda. Fifty seasons later, Plishka had appeared in 1,672 performances of 88 roles, including as Philip (II) in Don Carlo, King Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and as the title characters of Boris Godunov and Falstaff. In fact, according to The Met, only eight other people have sung more with the company. And this was a guy who used to think opera singers sounded like screeching chickens.

Roots of R&B: New Orleans songwriter and producer Allen Toussaint
Toussaint was an important behind-the-scenes figure in New Orleans R&B during the '50s and '60s. He later became known for his own recordings. He died in 2015. Originally broadcast in 1988.
