Save Our Hospital Hosts Lengthy Meeting On Hospital Sale

New Hanover Regional Medical Center

On Monday night Save Our Hospital, the group opposed to the sale of the medical center, held an online meeting to hear people’s concerns about the future.

It’s been almost a year since the County decided to explore selling the medical center, and for over three hours last night, more than 50 people gathered online to listen, and to weigh in with their opinions.

Wilmington resident Terri Everett opposes the sale. She says it’s not a good time to decide on such a move, as so much has changed in healthcare just during the pandemic. Such as …

“Telemedicine. There's going to be more people staying at home, working from home. Facilities won't be needed. There are so many things that were not considered that should be considered. And so, you know, I could go on and on about some of the deficiencies that I saw. We're not at a point now where a decision can be made or at least a sound decision because there's insufficient evidence, insufficient information.”

Meanwhile the Partnership Advisory Group is meeting again this Thursday at the County’s Government Center, to discuss and select their choice to recommend to the hospital board, and ultimately to the Board of Commissioners. The meeting is open to the public.  Seating will be limited in capacity due to social distancing guidelines.
