Brunswick County School Board Approves Redistricting Proposal

The fall 2020 school assignment of over 500 students in Brunswick County is set to change. At Tuesday night’s special meeting, the School Board voted to reassign elementary and middle school students as part of Phase One of the redistricting process.

Board members considered four options from the consultancy firm Cropper GIS, but ultimately selected the one that affects the least amount of students.

Board Chair Ellen Milligan:

“We started the process a while back and we've had several meetings, and throughout that time until tonight we have collected data from groups of consultants that do this for a business. And based on their data we have made the best decision with the information presented based on their recommendation.”

The next step is putting together an implementation plan for the newly redrawn districts which will inform parents of the changes.

From there, the district will move onto Phase Two, which might mean a new school and a second round of redistricting - this time including high school students.
