A controversial Wilmington downtown redevelopment initiative, dubbed Project Grace by New Hanover County, is slowing its progress.
Officials have decided not to vote on the project at Monday night's Board of Commissioners meeting.
That’s according to a news releasedropped by county officials after 6 pm on Friday, March 29th.
The reasons, according to the release, are to ensure County Commissioners are fully informed on the potential financial analysis and impacts of Project Grace. Officials say they also plan to revise key negotiation points.
The proposal covers an entire city block – bordered by Second and Third and Chestnut and Grace Streets – which is owned by New Hanover County. Preservation advocates and others fiercely oppose the project – partly because current plans include the demolition of two buildings they argue carry historical value.
A new date for staff to bring the Project back to the board is not yet scheduled.
