Elections 2018: June Robbins, Reginald Moore Running for Pender County School Board

June Robbins and Reginald Moore

Two Democrats are in the primary race for Pender County’s Board of Education District 4. Reginald Moore and June Robbins are looking to win a spot in November’s general election, to face Republican Ken Smith.

Both candidates in the Democratic primary have years of experience in education. For Reginald Moore, school safety is not simply a school issue.

“I think we need to have a meeting of the minds. When I say that, that means with in terms of partnerships, our human services department, to see what things we can do to be proactive in combatting some of the issues the kids deal with at home. Because if we have a healthier home, than the probability of us having more challenges at school diminishes greatly.”

June Robbins says school safety is also at the top of her list.

“My first priority is number one, safety. This is budget season. Pender County needs nurses, we need SROs in every school that are highly trained, we need more school counselors, I know that the legislature is looking at some of these now in their budgets. And we need social workers. I firmly believe that if your student body is healthy, that we can avoid something super tragic at a school.”

Election Day is Tuesday.
