Elections 2018: Ted Davis, Jr. Seeks 4th Term In NC House District 19

Ted Davis, Jr. (R-New Hanover County) is seeking his 4th term as Representative of NC House District 19.

Ted Davis, Junior has served as the Representative for North Carolina House District 19 since 2012 – when he was appointed to fill out the term of Danny McComas.  After that, voters reelected him three more times, and now this Republican from New Hanover County says he's hoping to win his primary challenge and serve a fourth term.

As Senior Chair of the House Select Committee on North Carolina River Quality, Ted Davis says he’s glad House Speaker Tim Moore extended the life of his committee until December.

"This problem that we have, not only with GenX but with emerging compounds that we really don’t even know about yet, is not going to be something that’s going to be resolved in the 2018 short session or any time in the near future.  This is going to be an ongoing thing that we must face."

For that reason, he says he’d like to get the Speaker to make the committee permanent.  While Davis has not faced an opponent since the first time he ran and he encourages political participation, he says the Cape Fear region would lose influence this year if he’s not reelected.

"I know years ago people complained that in the Eastern part of North Carolina they could never really get anything done in Raleigh because we didn’t have the power.  And it was all centered either in the middle or in the western part.  And that’s not the case anymore.  You have got people who are coming into influential positions within the House, and I happen to be one of those."

He is a Vice Chair on the House Appropriations Committee, a Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, Justice, and Public Safety, and a Vice Chair of the House Select Committee on Judicial Redistricting, among others.

School safety is high on Davis’ priority list -- as is protecting the coast from offshore drilling and seismic testing.

Early voting ends Saturday.  Election Day is May 8th.
