CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Decision on Battleship Road Housing Development Delayed

Vince Winkel
The project would have houses on Battleship Road, near the Cape Fear River. This is a view of Battleship Road looking north toward the USS North Carolina in the distance.

Property owners of 14 acres along Battleship Road would like to build up to 15 homes between that road and the Cape Fear River.  New Hanover County’s Planning Board has not yet voted on the request, although it had been on Thursday night's agenda.

Holdings of TCM, the property owner, aims to change the zoning of its parcel from the current Highway Business District, to a Conditional Residential District.

If approved, TCM would carve out 15 lots for 15 homes on the Eagles Island property.

However before the board could hear about the request at last night’s meeting, the applicants asked for a continuance. Joseph Taylor represents the landowners.

“We’re asking for the continuance so we can do an archeological survey of the property and the water, both of which we have done preliminarily. We feel like it is very important for everyone to understand what the status of the property is and our ability to answer questions from the county, and the citizens.”

The Board granted the request.

Taylor says after the ground testing, the developers will resume the rezoning application process. He expects to be prepared for the June 1st planning board meeting.
