Grocery Store Farmin' On Front Set to Open This Summer in Downtown Wilmington

Farmin' On Front

Downtown Wilmington has long been a food desert, with no grocery stores in sight.  But Farmin’ on Front will offer a new option for local shoppers starting this summer.

For over ten years, passersby have gazed at the elaborate costumes displayed at Second Time Around.  Just two weeks ago, the vintage clothing store announced its plans to move away from downtown Wilmington, and now, Farmin’ on Front, a grocery store, has already started moving in and renovating.  Soon, the display windows will be filled with seasonal produce.  Marketing Director Randall Heath says Farmin’ Brands’ goal is to locally source ninety percent of all product:

“That includes the sea foods from the waters of our coast, which is great, we live right on the coast of North Carolina.  The meats, the produce, so on and so forth.  There will be some things that may not be as local, and those are just some staple items people may need for meals: paper towels, paper plates, maybe a ketchup or something of that nature.  But, really, the focus is going to be on the local goods.”

Heath says Farmin’ already has wholesale partnerships with neighboring downtown restaurants, like Chops Deli, Pinpoint, and Fork n Cork.  The retail storefront is set to open this summer.
