Local Shelter Feeds Over 400

goodshepherdwilmington.org

A Wilmington homeless shelter has partnered with the international charity Feed the Children to provide boxes of food and other items to needy families.  Good Shepherd Center supplied the more than 400 boxes Thursday afternoon.  The group’s Associate Development Director Logan White says they’ve seen an influx of people in the past few days because of the cold weather.  She says the number one issue facing the homeless is affordable housing.

Logan White:  “If we aren’t fighting to find places for there to be affordable housing, and Wilmington is not the best known for the most affordable housing around, it’s really important for people who care about this problem to speak to their representatives and ensure that affordable housing is around.  People can have a job and they can have food, but if they can’t find anywhere to live that’s under a thousand dollars a month, they still are going to end up here.”

Good Shepherd will be hosting a number of events this year in celebration of the shelter’s 30th anniversary.
