Rouzer Requests Mandatory Recount

David Rouzer

North Carolina State Senator David Rouzer is calling for a recount in the race for the 7th congressional district. WHQR’s Sara Wood reports the republican made the announcement yesterday, which was the deadline for candidates to request a mandatory recount.

In a letter to the North Carolina State Board of Elections, Rouzer says he’s asking for a recount in light of the extremely narrow difference of 655 votes. Last week, Democratic Representative Mike McIntyre announced he won the race, claiming a 9th term in the hotly contested house seat. Rouzer released an official statement yesterday, saying that in a race this close, accidental human error could easily change the outcome.  He says it’s important to ensure that every legal vote cast is accurately counted. North Carolina law allows candidates to request a mandatory recount if the winning margin is less than one percent of the total votes cast. The recount will begin on Monday and must conclude by Wednesday.
