Unemployment Falls in 84 NC Counties

The North Carolina Department of Commerce released county unemployment rates for February Thursday.

WHQR’s Sara Wood reports the numbers are slightly delayed due to the Bureau of Labor’s release of seasonally adjusted numbers for the year in February.

Unemployment rates fell in 84 counties, including five in the Southeastern part of the state.

New Hanover and Onslow counties continue to remain below the state unemployment rate of 10.1 percent.

Brunswick County’s rate is 12.2 percent, down by just under 1 percent from last year.

While Bladen and Pender counties are still at more than 12 percent, both counties showed slight decreases.

Robeson and Columbus counties continue to have the highest unemployment rates in the region, more than 13.5 percent.
