Friday Feedback for July 17, 2015

June Gerken of Leland wrote:

Love the "stealth" campaign idea -- hope it's successful! Also love having the news station.

Thank you, June. We’ve been very pleased with the results of the Summer Stealth campaign so far. Thanks to all who have, like June, made comments with their pledges at WHQR.org. Most of today’s Feedback comes from that source.

Zaki Al-Meer of Hampstead wrote:

Please have BBC overnight one hour earlier. Midnight is too late for those of us who need to go to work in the morning. Thank you.
...a big, resounding THANK YOU for making every day a little bit better. -- Donna Giles and Sue Sneddon

YAY! [I] love the non-on air-begging fund drive! Any thoughts of boosting your classical signal? Would love to get it in my car in Brunswick County.

This is Sam Syme in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Have you all dropped service at 98.9 here in Myrtle Beach? I got back from vacation and I have not been able to get anything on that station number. Have I missed something? Thank you.

For Sam and others, the Myrtle Beach repeater at 98.9 was apparently struck by lightning recently. It’s in the shop for repairs and we hope to have it back in service this weekend. We sent an email update to our Myrtle Beach addresses. And for Mary, we don’t have a final answer for Brunswick County, but it is something that we are concerned about and working on.

Walter and Carolyn Prentice of Wilmington wrote with their pledge to the Summer Stealth drive:

We love the wonderful music from Classical HQR.

Mary Lou Lynch Corbin of Wilmington wrote:

WHQR has grown in so many wonderful ways since the early days on Greenfield St. Who would have ever dreamed then of all the ways that it could and has served this community. Cheers for all of us, both staff and supporters.

I’m calling in connection with your relationship with Cinematique. I understand from them that WHQR is the vehicle through which movies get selected to be played at Cinematique. And I'm calling to complain because at least half of the movies you seem to show are movies that have just recently played at the regular theaters. I look to WHQR and Cinematique for unusual and innovative, cutting-edge cinema. Not what just stopped playing at Mayfaire Cinema, or Carmine the week before. So that’s my complaint. Thank you very much. Bye.

In response, the Cinematique Committee tries to provide a variety of arthouse, foreign, documentary and other notable films. Yes, some may have recently had a brief commercial run, but our attendance usually shows our audience appreciates seeing them at Thalian. Also, there are times when we book a film that only later is scheduled to play the multiplexes, though we have no control over the distributor's choices. Thanks for the feedback.

One final comment from a pledge form in our Summer Stealth drive. And remember, you can make your pledge at whqr.org. Long-time friends of the station Donna Giles and Sue Sneddon of Shallotte did just that, and wrote:

No comments but a big, resounding THANK YOU for making every day a little bit better, thanks to your excellent programming.

Thank you, Donna and Sue, and all who have pledged at whqr.org.

We’d love to hear from you on Friday Feedback. You can always leave a message via email to feedback@WHQR.org. Our Feedback Phone is 910-292-9477. And thanks for your feedback.
