Chamber Music Wilmington’s 2021-2022 Season Opening Concert features the Merz Trio, performing audience-favorite piano trios by Haydn and Brahms, and a new and evocative work by Chris Rogerson (b. 1988), titled River Songs. Rogerson composed River Songs in 2014, inspired by youthful family vacations to a remote lake in Washington State. The Merz Trio has made a sweep of top US competitions, taking Gold Medals at the 2019 Fischoff and 2018 Chesapeake Competitions and being named a winner of the 2019 Concert Artists Guild Competition. The Reading Eagle praised their “stunning virtuosity and ensemble work” and praised their performance as “riveting.” The remainder of the season is scheduled as follows, on Sundays at 4 pm: November 7 featuring the Ulysses String Quartet and CMW artistic director, Oskar Espina-Ruiz, clarinet; January 30, 2022 Verona Quartet; and, April 10, 2022 Akropolis Reed Quintet.
