Cinematique Presents: "Maudie"

Monday, September 11 - Wednesday, September 13

Monday - Wednesday at 7 pm, Wednesday 4pm

Thalian Hall Main Stage Theatre

Maudie, based on a true story, is an unlikely romance in which the reclusive Everett Lewis hires a fragile yet determined woman named Maudie to be his housekeeper. Maudie, bright-eyed but hunched with crippled hands, yearns to be independent, to live away from her protective family and she also yearns, passionately, to create art. Unexpectedly, Everett finds himself falling in love. Maudie charts Everett’s efforts to protect himself from being hurt, Maudie’s deep and abiding love for this difficult man and her surprising rise to fame as a folk painter. Stars Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins.

From the critics:

Maudie is one of the most beautiful and life-affirming and uplifting movies of the year, capable of moving us to tears of appreciation for getting to know the title subject. Richard Roeper – Chicago Sun Times
As unassuming and gentle as its subject, Maudie breaks your heart with its infectious positivity and an outstanding Sally Hawkins, who can always be relied on for an emotionally sturdy, big-hearted performance. Tomris Laffly – Time Out
