The Wilmington branch of  the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves 4 counties-Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender. There are about 75,000 people living in food insecurity across these counties. Simply put, that's 75,000 people of all ages  (approximately 1/3 children) who may go to bed hungry any given night.

Chef's Feast on the River. Wednesday, October 19, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Sample chef's signature cuisine to support the local food bank. Chefs include Vivian Howard (The Chef & the Farmer), Keith Rhodes (Catch), Dean Neff (PinPoint), Lydia Clopton (PinPoint), Ryan Andress (UNCW), Steve Harrington (Steviemack's), Matt Register (Southern Smoke BBQ), Craig Love (Surf House) Jameson Chavez (manna)

The Food Bank is recharging its stock for the fall with the help of local chefs and superstar chef, A Chef's Life's Vivian Howard (along with her new book, Deep Run Roots). On Wednesday, October 19th, the casual gala Chef's Feast at the River is on the Cape Fear waterfront. Two of the chefs providing food for the feast are Dean Neff from PinPoint Restaurant and Keith Rhodes from Catch Restaurant. They joined us in the studio; listen to our interview below.

Tickets can be purchased for the Book Discussion & Signing with Vivian Howard; Single and Couple tickets for the Feast (which includes a signed copy of Vivan Howard's new book); and the Feast + Meet & Greet with Vivian Howard. The Feast offers special dishes, desserts, and drinks from Vivian Howard and Wilmington chefs.

Listen to this Web Extra with chefs Dean & Keith below, discussing food insecurity, waste, and government policy about food distribution.
