Communique: Sarus Festival 2016 Is Underway Through Sunday
The Sarus Festival is all about community building. And art. And dance. And pushing boundaries. It's impossible to encapsulate the festival in one word or phrase. You just have to experience it, and it's happening now in it's 5th incarnation through the weekend.
"In the first dance I thought the lady was just having a dream with weird stuff all around her...and space...I loved it." -Boy from the audience
I visited the Festival performances for youth yesterday morning at Kenan Auditorium, where Artistic & Executive Director KarolaLuttringhaus performed, along with Israeli dancer Naomi Greenberg. They performed three pieces that embodied the spirit of the festival-experimental, unexpected, abstract. Listen above to hear Karolatalk about the festival, plus reactions to the experimental performances they saw.
Happenings are going on all around town through Sunday. See the entire schedule here. On Thursday night, the premier of the dance/theatre piece about Minnie Evans, "babble," is performed on the Minnie Evans lawn at the Cameron Art Museum. Three pieces are onstage at Kenan Auditorium on Friday evening, including one featuring live accompaniment by internationally acclaimed pianist Barbara Lister-Sink.
Tickets for individual events and Festival Passes are available online. Tickets can also be purchased on the phone through Kenan Box Office (910-962-3500) and at the door of each event.
