The Lambda: Historical Production In More Ways Than One

Chad Lewis & Ron Hasson

The musical The Lambdahas cult-classic status in the Wilmington theater community.  The show, set in a 1970s gay bar in Carolina Beach, premiered in 1992.  The show was penned by former Wilmingtonian Steve Cooper with music by another former local, Brad Moranz.  Cooper's work has lived on locally through Thalian Hall's yearly Pied Piper shows.  The Lambda is steeped in history, both locally and in the larger arc of social acceptance for gays.  It's not a "message musical," but gives audiences a thoughtful glance back despite itself.  Theatre Now presents the show through February 14.

Director Ron Hasson and actor Chad Lewis (Eric) sat down to talk about the play and what it means for audiences today.  This is a dinner show (some "show-only" tickets available) with a special menu for Valentine's weekend.  Tickets available online or at the door.

"The Lambda" at Theatre Now. Fridays & Saturdays at 7:00 plus a special Valentine's Day performance on Sunday, February 14.
