CAPE FEAR MEMORIAL BRIDGE CLOSURE: UPDATES, RESOURCES, AND CONTEXT

Wilmington Premiere: "Mary Poppins"

Jason Aycock (Bert) & Heather Setzler (Mary Poppins)

We all know that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down-and we learned it from Mary Poppins, the nanny we all wished we had.   For decades, our vision of the story and characters created by author P. L. Travers was defined through reading the series or watching Disney's 1964 film (most of us, the latter).

"Mary Poppins" runs from June 10-June 28. Special performances Wednesday & Thursday, June 10 & 11; otherwise, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00, Sundays at 3:00.

Eleven years ago, a musical theatre adaptation was created by Cameron Mackintosh and premiered in London; by 2006, it was on Broadway.  Now that access to the rights has widened, Opera House Theatre Companypremieres the show for Wilmington audiences at Thalian Hall.

Heather Setzler plays the title role, while Jason Aycock plays the beloved Bert.  They spoke to us about what we can expect when we see this production (which Jason says is one of the largest he's ever done)-many of the songs will be familiar, but we'll hear some new ones as well.  They aren't giving away any secrets, so attendance is required to discover how the magic of Mary is translated to the theater.
