    B-B Bing - Susan reflects on the singing of Bing Crosby, whose song 'White Christmas' remains one of the most popular tunes of the holiday season. In the '20's and 30's Crosby was the first performer to incorporate jazz techniques into his singing. He later became the first singer to have his own radio program.

But as NPR's Mandalit DelBarco reports, L.A. has achieved huge reductions in air pollution over the past two decades, despite the city's reputation for lung-searing smog.   • Commentator Murray Horwitz tells what it was like yesterday at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinatti when umpire John McSherry collapsed and died at the opening game of the baseball season. Horwitz had attended ball games with his parents in Cincinatti - and was taking his teenager daughter. McSherry, who was 51 years old, suffered sudden cardiac death. The game was delayed to today; Horwitz described the atmosphere there and the matter of fact way his daughter described it afterwards.
  • Dan O'Connell used to watch Magic Johnson play basketball during his college days in Michigan. For O'Connell, who is also HIV-positive, it's a thrill to see him back on the court again following his four-and-a-half season absence from NBA.
