Seven New Classical Programs Joining Lineup on Classical HQR 92.7

“You asked - we listened! Just for our classical music fans, we're shining up our program schedule beginning July 1. We're adding seven star-studded new programs to the 92.7 Classical WHQR schedule to enliven your afternoon and evening listening. Tune in every day - then listen and see!” - Pat Marriott, WHQR Music Director

Beginning July 1, Classical WHQR will roll out a new classical music season, full of star-studded programs to add sparkle and variety to our classical program lineup.

The Third Floor (Monday 2pm, Sunday 2pm encore) The Third Floor brings listeners three hours of the best choral, vocal, and instrumental classical music. Host Bill Cromwell, in this highly personal creation, presents a wide variety of music from the last 500 years . . . and beyond. Each segment contains a featured work and along the way, Bill explores every genre in classical music: arias, motets, anthems, sonatas, concertos, string quartets, symphonies, and more. Similar to WHQR’s own Evening Concert, this is a music program for serious music-lovers.

Feminine Fusion (Tuesday 2pm) Feminine Fusion highlights the influence of women in classical music. These are the women throughout history and into the present day who create, perform, and inspire the world of classical music. Each episode centers around a broad theme, and feature composers, conductors, performers, or teachers. The music presented spans the centuries, providing background and insight into the music and individuals you'll be hearing.

Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts (Tuesday 8pm) If you can’t get to Europe for the music festival season this year, we’ll bring it to you!  Deutsche Welle, the German international broadcasting company, brings you weekly “Festival Concerts” broadcasts, featuring a variety of regional festivals, and of course the world-famous Bach Festival in Leipzig, the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth, and the Beethoven Festival in Bonn.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra Radio Broadcasts (Wednesday 8pm) Regarded throughout its history as one of the nation’s premier orchestras, and hailed as the number one American orchestra by the venerable British music publication Gramophone, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is conducted by music director Riccardo Muti and guest artists from around the world.

Classical Guitar Alive (Thursday 2pm, noon Sunday encore) Classical Guitar Alive features great music and fascinating interviews with many of the world's leading guitar performers and composers. An unabashedly enthusiastic and fast-paced romp through the classical repertory of the world's most popular musical instrument, Classical Guitar highlights a vast repertoire of music ranging from Medieval through present-day solo, chamber, and orchestral music with guitar.

Pittsburgh Symphony Radio (Thursday 8pm) Pittsburgh Symphony Radio proudly brings one of the nation's top-ranking orchestras to classical music lovers nationwide. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, under its Music Director and conductor Manfred Honeck, captivates audiences with works from the standard repertoire as well as by new composers in world premiere performances.

Center Stage from Wolf Trap (Friday 2pm, 1pm Sunday encore) The ever-popular Center Stage from Wolf Trap showcases live performances from some of today's finest chamber musicians, recorded in the acoustically superb Barns at the Wolf Trap Farm National Park for the Performing Arts, just outside of Washington D. C.  Each show focuses on a single chamber artist or group.
