Residents can voice their opinions on the draft report of the North Carolina Maritime Strategy study this week.
WHQR’s Michelle Bliss reports that the state Department of Transportation is holding an informal meeting in Supply Tuesday and another in Wilmington Wednesday.
The report from the state Maritime Strategy study doesn’t make recommendations, but it does explore different options for using the state ports to create jobs and improve port business in the future.
Some of the options include possibly modernizing the existing ports in Wilmington and Morehead City or maybe building a mega-port in Brunswick County.
The meetings will include an open house where DOT staff members and consultants will be available to answer questions and take feedback. There will also be a presentation and public comment period.
The DOT plans to complete its final report next month so that lawmakers can review it for the legislative session which starts in May.
The DOT also held public meetings on the study back in December and October.
