Everybody Knows runs from Monday, March 25 thru Wednesday, March 27. It screens Monday to Wednesday at 7pm with an additional screening on Wednesday at 4pm in Thalian Hall’s Main Theatre.
Laura (Penelope Cruz), a Spanish woman living in Buenos Aires, travels to her small home town outside Madrid, Spain for her sister's wedding, bringing her two children along for the occasion. Amid the joyful reunion and festivities, the eldest daughter is abducted. In the tense days that follow, various family and community tensions surface and deeply hidden secrets are revealed. This psychological thriller also features a great performance by Javier Bardem.
From the critics:
“The mystery becomes popcorn-chompingly compelling, each new piece of information adding shading and dimension to the true shape of the family. Nobody is above suspicion or below empathy.” Emily Yoshida, New York Magazine (Vulture)
“This is a movie about a devastating external blow to a family, delivered with almost supernatural accuracy, a blow which exposes all sorts of cracks and weaknesses and fault lines, and does so with such pitiless efficiency that it is almost as if these secrets and lies are a kind of sin which has called forth an inevitable punishment.” Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
