Samantha Dooies

Board Member

Samantha Dooies has served as the administrative assistant to District Attorney Ben David for over ten years. In this capacity she manages the office, serves as the DA public information officer, supervises the support staff, and coordinates witnesses in homicide cases. She is also engaged with the DA’s Office community outreach efforts and provides assistance with Crime and Community in the Cape Fear, a course taught at UNCW.

Service on the WHQR board is a meaningful way for Sam to contribute to the station that enriches her understanding of the community on a daily basis. Prior board service includes two terms with the Cape Fear Museum Associates and a term with W.H.A.T. (Wilmington Health Access for Teens). Sam has also volunteered with reading programs at Snipes and Rachel Freeman Elementary Schools. In 2011, she worked with the American Council of Young Political Leaders’ delegation of Chinese officials visiting North Carolina as part of a political and cultural exchange. She was asked to serve as a delegate to China through this program in 2013.

A native of Wellington, FL, Sam has a B.A. in History from the University of Florida and an M.A. in Museum Studies from New York University. She enjoys cooking, reading fiction, traveling, and going to the beach. She is a big fan of Florida Gator football and basketball and loves spending time with her husband Brett, daughter Olivia, son Ethan, and dog Molly.
