Elections 2018: John Thompson, Robert Cruse Eye Brunswick County Board of Education

Robert Cruse and John Thompson

In Brunswick County, three Republicans are facing off against each other for a seat on the Board of Education in District 5: Gerald Benton, Robert Cruse, and incumbent John Thompson. Today we take a  look at Cruse and Thompson.

The former Mayor of Sandy Creek, Robert Cruse, says keeping teachers should be a priority in the district.

“I think we need to make sure our teachers are paid fair, so that way they don’t leave us, especially after we get them trained and they get some experience. So I want to make sure the salaries are adjusted accordingly. I also want to make sure the schools are safe. Teachers shouldn’t have to go to school worrying about whether or not the schools are going to be raided or whatever. That’s kind of like a top priority.”

As for school security, John Thompson says the county has had its guard up.

“We have been very proactive through the years. We’ve made sure that we have good video surveillance in all of the buildings, the grounds. And we have through design made sure we have casual surveillance of major entries and all the security issues that typically come to mind we’ve been very proactive with.”

The architect says the county also has SRO’s in every school.

Election Day is Tuesday.
