Rep. Holly Grange Aims to Ease Regulations & Licensing Requirements to Promote Small Business in NC

Representative Holly Grange

A little over a month ago, North Carolina Representative Holly Grange was sworn in to office, after Rick Catlin stepped down from his role representing House District 20.  She has no Democratic challenger in November.  The Republican wants to ease regulations and licensing requirements to promote small business in the state.

Holly Grange says most jobs come from small business, but North Carolina’s regulatory climate can hamstring such development.  In the area of professional licensing, she says there are educational requirements and fees that make it difficult for people to get to work:

“We don’t make it easy to get a license. For instance, there’s a lot of effort and time required to get a barber’s license in North Carolina. There’s less time required to get a welder’s license. Some of it just seems a little out of whack.”

Grange says the legislature needs to use a little more common sense when considering business regulations.  She’s requested to be put on the Regulatory Reform Committee to address those issues in her first term.
